Hmmm...

Is that "Taps" i hear playing quietly in the background? Is that Dr. Kevorkian strolling down the corridor with a syringe in his hand?

I still visit the site daily, but you're right...it's been awfully quiet lately.
It is February, after all. My S2000 hasn't gotten much action lately.

You're north of me, but I've managed to get the occasional drive in.

Although I have been working a bit lately, combined with epic rain, I have managed to get some top down time. In January went off for a really nice 3 day weekend and drove down to Murphys California. Perfect weather for top down driving.

So yes, the cold weather for us lowly, pitiful East Coasters is not conducive to enjoying the S2000 to its fullest.

But I still love this car, and I remember that almost every single time I drive it.
Honda could not have made this car any better, especially for my ergonomics and performance desires. It fits me like a $34,000-dollar suit.

And after visiting the 2017 Philly Auto Show, I'm quite bummed that there is absolutely nothing like it anywhere else on the market today...

The Miata? Nope.
The Fiata? Please.
The Boxster...you'll likely drop $80 grand.
The Z4...no 6spd? And drop $60 grand.
The BRZ...meh.

I guess the 370Z remains the closest we'll find, but it's still not an equivalent.

Come on Mazda...bring back the RX-7!

The people in PA were the "lucky(?)" recipients of way more snow than necessary. I'm in the DC area and the most we got was a sprinkling (knocking on wood), and we're had some days with temps in the upper 40's to mid-60's. It's been a strange winter.

The pendulum swings again. From years of drought (and me personally sweating the water dropping in my well) to overwhelming precipitation. Nearby Oroville dam has been in the news all over the world. Early this February I had to drive to San Jose and came up Hwy 5 from Tracy to Sacramento. I was astonished at how much of the farmland/dairys/barns/homes/ were underwater.

More rain is coming. When the sun does shine and the roads are dry, it makes for wonderful top down driving but that has been rare so far this year.

It's been a hard past few months here in SoCal the rain is still coming. I was talking to a few people about the road conditions nowadays, with all the mountain roads dealing with mudslides I don't want to take any chances. I did swing by Willow Springs raceway this past Saturday to see if anyone was out there, but didn't see any familiar faces. So I'll hope for a better spring.

I seen rumors of a new S2000 but the price of it is going to be high, right around $50k too much for me right now. The Civic type R would be nice if it get's to the USA. But for now I'll have to rock the CR-Z for sometime.

Way too welll. Fortunately, I get the first one off the truck and no mark up. Stick with the same dearlership long enough and eventually you get rewarded.

How does Honda skip out on putting a SH-AWD system in the Type R?
It's not my type of car anyway, but if I were cross-shopping this category, I just don't see how I could choose that over the Ford or Subaru. Does the Type R offer anything significant over those two?

Well, let's'see..withiin 1 second of the fastest Porsche laptime at Nuremberg Ring, goes like a rocket, corners like it's on rails, even gets decent gas mileage. Nope, can't see anything significant.

To allay those fears, yes, I am still with us. Still have bb. Not a lot of action at this place but I do drop in.

What are you driving now, Glenn?

Honda will obviously have no trouble attracting its dedicated fans to the Type R, but in a world where 4 of its main rivals have awd, it's going to be tough competition. When I asked if the Type R offers anything "significant" over the others, it's very likely the lightest of the bunch. Maybe the coolest interior too...and Honda would of course have the best shifter as well. That's about all I can give it though. A few seconds on the Nürburgring don't say much in real-world comparisons.

True but Momma Honda thought so, there was a lot of bragging. There are a number of Type R's either in the WRC or being prepared for it. Guess we'll see how important AWD can be.

We'll see, have to see it in the metal first and drive it before passing judgement. If I know Honda, it'll have a killer (vtec) engine, handling that will be trackworthy but still comfortable for daily driving. I see/drive the regular hatchback daily and it's a fine car for everyday semi enthusiast driving. Bring it on!
