New S2000s

I think those lazy Japanese should start making new S2000s again.
What do you think?

If they ever do, it probably will be priced way out of my range. But one can still hope.

I think this seems real familiar, particularly the "lazy Japanese" comment. Lazy troll is more like it.

Why do we assume that if they made a new S2K it would be better? Cars are made to a price level. Ours was built to compete with cars in the 30-40K range. ZigZag nailed it, if they raise the performance bar to the next level the price will rise as well. Oh yea, it will have some new electronic doodads on it but really, at our price range, can it really be better than what we have now?? Want more performance?? Buy a used Boxster, Cayman, 911, Vette, Viper, NSX, or SLK. I looked and drove all of them before realizing that for the low 20's I could get all the performance I needed + the reliability of a Honda all in a low mileage one owner, and not spend 30-45k for it.

Hard to beat the price/performance/reliability. All the new cars have too many electronics for my taste, which I am sure any updated S would have. I like the AP1's "raw" feel.

I am in favor of revamping the production as well. That was one of my favorite cars ever.

I believe kgf it's speaking in the present tense rather than the past. Is vs. was. (Most here are still enjoying their S's.)

All that's needed is a body. chassis, suspension, & motor are in place. I think Honda will make a car based on F20c1. Factory FI perhaps (early on comptech did a dealer installed s/c that Honda warrantied) but, I don't think they will scrap that motor. Also, Honda is building motors for F1 again not to mention every Indy car is using Honda motors. So R&D seems to be back in full swing.

A couple of issues ago Autoweek had a great article about the advanced electronics found in some new cars. The fear is that the more electronics we get in the car the greater the possibility of 'electronically" hijacking the car. The scenario they spun was pretty interesting. A car is taken to the dealer who hooks up his diagnostic computer to the cars service port. The car downloads its data and a preloaded program into the dealerships computer system. Every car that comes in then gets this bootleg program downloaded to it when it is at the dealership. At a pre-determined time the on board computer commands the accelerator to floor and the auto parking feature to turn the wheel hard left (or right, whatever). Possible?? I am most certainly not a computer expert or even knowledgeable, but I am figuring the people who wrote the article know more than I do so I am betting it probably has a basis in fact.

I prefer my cars butt stupid and unconnected to the internet or the phone system.

Gang bangers can shut down a newer car with a stun gun. Its dead in the water but you can do what you want with the occupants and cargo. (Unless the driver is CCW)
Police can shut down newer cars with RF beamed energy.
Hackers can get into car systems. Its the new "grape".
