Thumbs up S2000 Future Collectors car

Not much current in this subforum but I'll post this for us in the south.

Interesting list of recent cars that may become future classics. I have a friend with the Crossfire, it is nice, but not my cup of tea.

Here is the key phrase of this entire article:

"However, due to the affordability of the S2000, many have suffered a cruel and all-too-usual punishment at the hands of the “Fast and Furious” generation".

Just as so many Camaros, Mustangs, Road Runners, Chargers, Cudas, Challengers Etc. Etc. from the 60's & 70's suffered through lift kits, cut out fenders, tacked on hoodscoops and the like at the hands of the younger set once they became more affordable.

The S2000's today that are "hellaflushed", aftermarket, carbon fiber this and that, ridiculous over sized wings, replaced engines, body kits, etc. etc. etc. will only serve to drive the value of the ones left as close to stock as possible up. The heavily modded or highly "personalized" cars will be just about worthless in 20 years, thank you! I suspect a time will come sooner than one would expect when a bone stock S2000 with matching numbers and "unmolested" will cross the auction stage at Mecums or Barrett - Jackson well north of $100,000. I think you can count on it. I may be wrong but I doubt I am and honestly I don't care. I'm enjoying mine to the fullest just as they are.

+1 ^ I have been looking for a un-molested S2000 lately. I'm trying to decide the fate of my CR-Z to get back into a S2000. Believe it or not the resale valve of the CR-Z is the worst of any Honda brand.

$100,000 ain't what it used to be and probably will be less so in the future--count on it Federal Reserve.

the unspoiled babies with low, low miles command a fair premium now.

it is hard to own an S2000 and not drive it. i want a 2nd S, not as an investment, but as another driver so that i will always have one until they pry my DL from my cold dead fingers.

If you think about it the S has no competition when you compare cost vs performance vs quality/reliability. The Nissan 350/370 convertible is UGLY as sin and heavy, Boxster S is more expensive and God help your wallet if it breaks, C6 Corvette: yawn, Miata 2 of the 3 but slowwwww (I know). From what I have seen low mileage AP2's have seen a 10% value increase in the last 2 years.

Here is something interesting in regards to Japanese classic sports cars. Could an S2000 achieve this status 40 - 50 years down the road? Hmmmm...

dunno...i remember something from ECON 101 about scarcity and utility. there are a lot more S2000s than GTs. if i had a million $$$ i sure wouldn't buy a GT. i wouldn't buy 40 S2000s either. i guess these people that pay 1 million for a car have got another 20 million or so or more. 40-50 years down the road? not in my future. i'm driving my baby. btw: a million ain't what it used to be either.
