New SCCA roll cage in AP1

OK, here are some pictures of the finished roll cage in my 2001 S2K. This car is going to be strictly for SCCA road racing. I.E. not street legal! was hoping to make my first outting at Michigan International speedway in May but there is just too much to still do. Gonna have to race the Lotus 7 Darn

Thats pretty nice bro may I ask what type of tubbing your using... chromoly? I use dom 1 3/4 020 on my drift car may be overkill for the s2 dose scca have thickness and size regs also firewall penetration/design regs? I know I can google but a fellow memembers insight would be nice too..

Roll cage is made from 1.5" DOM (Drawn over Mandrell) seemless tubing that is o.o95 thick. Yes, SCCA has a minimum requirement based on the weight of the car. Yes, we are allowed firewall penatration. This is for Production and GT classes. The rules for IT (Improved Touring) cars are slightly different and limit the number of mounting points and do not allow you to go throught the firewall. I went through the fire wall on the upper angled tubes that you can see but there are also tube that go from the A piller under the front fenders all the way to the front of the car and are attached to the shock towers. I had to drill out all the welds on the inner structural pannel and remove it to run the tube under it. I later went back and welded the pannel back in.

Thanks guys,

Had to go outside the engine compartment with the forward tubes as there is no good place to bring the cage forward of the firewall.

This winter I am hoping to build all new custom suspention. Also just picked up a 4.77 ring and pinion as I never got the car into 6th gear at the races. Topped out 5th gear at 130mph. Lots of other things still to do to improve the handling.

Finished car at the SCCA Run Offs last September.

Sweet thanks for the insight there are no plates on my car and the more it sits with tags or insurance I think about it becoming a track machine are you planning on using or fabbing a front splitter? Feel its needed? This thread is awsome lol

A splitter would be helpful. No Plans for a splitter because the rules for SCCA road racing (Production class) doesnt allow for us to extend beyond the outline of the body when viewed looking straight down on the car.
