CR specific Meet.

This was posted on S2KI, but I know there are several CR owners on S2000.com, a specific CR meet is in the early stages of development. This is an interest only thread, so if you are interested in a CR meet in SoCal in July please post your interest.

More details to follow.

wow, which track? better get some new rear tires

VP have you decided which CR you're taking? i'm assuming it's not going to be a delete model 'cause it's summer and you're gonna want the A/C. and have you replaced any of your tires yet? you planning on sticking with the RE-070's?

The track location is still pending some final details, the final details should be out mid march hopefully.

As for which CR I might bring........ you will have to come and see.

I have the RE-070's (original equipment) on two and the Star Specs and RS3's on the others. There will also be a canyon run in addition to the track day, just imagine 30-50+ CR's running together. Should be a great event, more on this event will be detailed very soon.

The Hankooks are definitely the better/stickier tire. I run the 225 vs. the 215 on the front and the 255 on the rear.
Having said that, there is one caveat. The cars don't see rain, in that case the Dunlops would be the better choice.

Onlinetire.com has the cheapest prices on the Hankooks and Bridgestone tires if your considering tires. They aren't 2nd's or blems either.

https://www.onlinetires.com/search/v...ds/page_1.html

Click on the tire images to get the prices.

so this meet is in the bag and wow, what a great experience. friday late afternoon/early evening we all met up at the hotel in socal and it was just a meet and greet and washing cars. some ppl drove their CR's (with gf's/spouses) from very far distances. quite a few people from the northwest, and quite a few ppl from texas. a couple of them drove out from texas, and they had the delete versions!

next morning we went for a cruise in the santa monica mountains. it wasn't anything like the EOM runs that murphy organizes, it was just a cruise but we made our way to a honda place (can't say the name 'cause we signed a bunch of disclaimers and non-disclosures). we actually had to leave our cameras and cell phones in our cars. plus when the place was mentioned on s2ki, they contacted the poster and made him take it down. it was crazy 'cause i was talking to some of the employees and their spouses can't even come back there and see what they do. but this facility builds all of honda's indy car engines, their sport car engines (the ones that race at le mans and sebring), and yah obviously honda has a very strong racing pedigree 'cause there were signed helmets everywhere and trophy cases galore. (honda in japan does the F1 engines). the coastal NSX club also was able to go there and get a tour, but that's about it. they did sponsor a Type-R event at the Ohio speedway a while back also. should we choose to have another event there (if there's enough interest from the community) i don't wanna be the guy that prevented it from happening by posting too much.

it takes about 155 hours for 1 guy to assemble an indy car engine, and they're all master engine builders. they cost ~$500,000 each, so most teams can't afford them so they lease them but it comes with a full time engineer that's at the track with the engine every race. the kind of testing they can do in their dyno is amazing. they can simulate pike's peak or death valley.

one of the cooler things we saw there was one of their recent projects was their honda s3700. basically they stuck a 3.7L mdx engine in a '09 AP2 just for fun. also had a raffle, lot of cool prizes (i won a couple). and seeing as how only 699 CR's were made, i think the cool part was seeing so many of them together. the meet was EXTREMELY well organized, vast majority s2ki ppl, i think VP and i were the only s2000.com members. but VP is also on s2ki so eh.... =p (VP is actually a really solid guy)

now for the members that have actually gotten to this point and are still here, some other facts that you'll actually care about. some of the guys there are working on the NSX (but most of the design is being done in Ohio and it's all being build there). as of now (from what they could tell me) there are no plans to build a hot hatch or s2000 replacement. the cr-z was a complete dud here, but it's selling like HOT CAKES overseas, so there might be some talk of a Type-R cr-z but it'll probably be a dud here, too. so all we got is the accord v-6 coupe. the ILX, TSX, and TL all are available with a manual trans, but they're super hard to find but they're not true performance cars. the manual transmission is on its way out, especially in performance cars because the paddle shifters can shift so much quicker (who needs feel???). they took us to the back garage where we saw some of their cars that won big races (super cool) and a couple cars that they were tinkering on (currently available in the line-up). one of them being the fit, the goal is to make the car track ready for under $25k. like a budget racer.

this is not just our gripe, but also with some of the people we talked to there also. a few of the employees there drive s2k's so the car is known. and that s3700 was finished 2 days before we got there, they were rushing to get it done for us (super cool). we got to talk to the engineer who was in charge of that project.

the sad thing is that at the track today, there were sooooo many s2000's. much more prevalent than evo's, wrx's, miata's, and mazda rx's. the s2k is a reliable performance machine that won't be replicated anytime soon so hang on to them and enjoy them. more on the track in a separate post.

if i can ever find an unmolested type-R for a reasonable price, i'd pick it up. i saw one bone stock that had 22k miles on it a couple years back, looked so clean, but they wanted $22k for it.

ok so i was trying to be all discreet but apparently now it's not a big deal. we went to Honda Performance Development (HPD), they have a fb page apparently, and they posted tons of pics on it from the meet. not to be confused with Honda Factory Performance (you can get a HFP kit for a civic si but it's only a body kit and different colored floor mats), HPD is the racing division.

the first 2 s2k's were those owned by employees of HPD, and there's one other AP2 which was driven by a CR owner but his clutch was shot but since he already signed up for the event (and actually organized the track day) he still came.

the HPD odyssey ran Pike's peak. also ran a Fit EV up Pike's peak, too. sorry no hp and torque numbers, that was a super secret project. they let us take pics but requested we didn't do any close ups. and they only let 1 guy ride in it (lucky VP!!!) the other ride along was a big manager at HPD. the 3.7L engine out of the mdx is kinda flat, so they were able to keep the 51:49 weight ratio though they had to modify the hood a little. i thought that was really incredible. this concept became reality because the presidents of HPD and Honda America thought it'd be cool to do just to do. unfortunately not a precursor of things to come. i don't think the hp #'s went past 300 but i'm sure the thing had way more torque.

What a great time! Finally meeting everyone we only know by screen names was fantastic! From the group drive to the evening festivities, visiting HPD was awesome. The ride in the S3700 looks pretty tame in the video, and it was. The part you don't see is when we left the facility and proceeded to burn off 5,000 miles worth of rubber at a much faster pace.
The tour of HPD was indeed special, everything from the lobby to the Dyno rooms is first class and purpose built. Thank you Jennifer Erickson and Steve Erikson for the in depth tour of your facility.
I'm ready to do it again, how about you LTWU?

Nice VP

My neighbor drives a '05 Crown Vic interceptor (police package) which is around 350 HP, he has been running his mouth for over a year now about how you cant replace displacement. So of course the day came when we decided it was time, I normally dont drag race but I was tired of his mouth. We jumped on the highway and headed to section that was clear and decided (we were on the phone) to go for it after the toll booth. 10 mph rolling start seemed fair otherwise he stood no chance (so I figured), well........... he got smoked from 11 mph all the way up to 130, it was not even competitive. It was so embarrassing that he traded in the vic the very same day and showed up with a 2011 civic si. Vtech for the win

If you're wondering if we went at it again........... the si got smoked to there is a long sweeper to jump on the next highway and I was around 90mph (and I could of gone faster) and he was struggling to maintain 70.
