Shopping for the good one

Never have owned a S2K. Looking at a un-modified 01' with 56,000 miles. Limited information available from the selling dealer. I've read about oil consumption on early models. What's this about...?

I can't give you a very good detailed reason, I am not sure of all the reasons AP1s tend to burn more oil. Even though I have an AP2, an 09, I check my oil all the time, both sides of the stick, to be sure. As it happens, my S does not go through any measureable oil at all.

You should check if the revised Banjo bolts/retainers have been installed. Check the rear axle nut torque. All these can be found here and on our sister sites. Lots of folks here are very knowledgable with this car, unlike me who is an aspiring amateur.

Have fun and good luck! Let us know how its going.

Don't worry about oil consumption. Diligent oil checking is the key.

I'd be concerned more about the details the dealer is not providing !

Take the VIN to a Honda dealership and get them to check the service history. I'd also ask the selling dealer if you could pay to have a dealership check the vehicle our for you.

If in doubt wait------there will be another for sale in minutes. I always look for my toys with the following in mind: super low miles (verified), newest year possible, and then overall condition. Usually if the miles are low and the year late the condition is excellent.

Wayne's right,,,,,,,,the hunt is half the fun. I am going to add a Harley to my bike collection and I bet I have looked at over a 1000 on CL in Florida in the last three months. I'll know the one I want when I see it, meanwhile the hunt is the fun part.
