Looking to buy an s2000

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the site and figured this would be a great place to be a member of. I'm looking into buying an s2000 (I've taken an interest in them a couple years back when my friend showed me the car while I was a sophomore in high school) but have been hard pressed on determining which one is "right" for me. I've taken a liking to the AP2's but when looking for used one's online it's hard to find one within a decent price range I've set for myself. I'm getting a trust fund check at the end of the month for $20,000, I need to save most of it for down the road and the future but I figured why not spend some of it on buying the car I've had my eye on for awhile. That being said I plan on selling my motorcycle (even though it's convenient here in LA) and spending around $13,000 or $14000 on an s2000. As most AP2's are set well above that price I guess what I'm asking is that is there a real big difference (or personal preference) between the AP1 and AP2 models (other than the redline and torque)?

No 'big' differences. We argue about the small things because that's mostly what seperates the different years of S2000. We all think our personal year is the best but you can't go wrong with any S2000. Good luck in your search, you've picked a great car.

if you want a detailed explanation read this:

https://www.s2000.com/forums/all-oth...the-years.html

AP1's come with 16's, AP2's w/ 17's, AP1's tend to be more tail happy, but a little more raw so you get a purer driver experience according to some. AP2's definitely tend to be more refined, but really though you can't go wrong. just look for a clean, unmolested s2k, leave it that way, and you'll be good to go
