Hi, Looking to buy an S2K!

Hi everyone,
I have been on the search for an s2000 as of late.
A little about me:
-Late 20s
-Currently owns 08 Evo X, previously owned civic SI, bmw z3, accord v6
-Looking for a AP2
-Considering throwing down a considerable amount more for a Cayman S instead of an s2k

I am leaning more towards the s2k since, well it is considerably cheaper, and I have always loved the s2k. Probably wouldve bought one already if my best friend didnt own one.

Anyways, im sure this question has arised many times already but what should i be looking at when purchasing one of these cars used?? should i be worried about high mileage? any other basic things I can check on the spot or notice with a test drive? Thanks in advance!!

Welcome. You have quite the background with cars. Would you be getting rid of the Evo? What's making you want an Ap2 and not even consider an Ap1?

Obviously lower mileage is going to be better, but these cars can run for a very long time just like any other S2000. I've heard of these things with over 250k and still running strong. Mine has 115k and I've taken it to the track 3 times this summer and it did great. There were Bimmers, GTRs, and even a Boss 302 that kept overheating and had to keep cooling off. No problems like that with my car even though it was way older and had over a 100k more miles. I should say that my throw-out bearing exploded though which was kind of a big deal but that wan't the cars fault. The stupid shop that installed it didn't do it right. Just another example of why all major work on these cars should be done by a reputable performance shop or a Honda dealership or yourself if you can do that sort of work.

Other than that, look for the normal stuff you'd look for on any used car. Good luck!

Man, as much as I would take a Cayman S, I would have to go for the turbo to really enjoy it. That being said I cannot afford a Cayman, but love my S, so I say check out both ap1 and ap2 models. My car is pushing almost 100k miles and runs strong. If I was going to get a SUV it would have to have some utility purpose. As cool as it would be to push 0-60 in under 5 seconds with a Cayman turbo or Jeep Cherokee SRT8 with 4 passengers, I couldn't justify the consumption of fuel. Buy a Range Rover Sport supercharged if you want a spirited SUV, that thing hauls *** and can climb a mountain. Like I said, I can't afford these cars, but if I could I might consider investing in oil. Buy an S man, you will love it!

Otter you're thinking of the Cayenne. The Cayman is a sports car. It's the one in between a Boxster and a 911.

Also, for the price, the only Porshe that would be comparable would be an older boxter S.
