Somebody save this S2K

Firstly, I am not a s2000 owner and this is my first time to this site.

However, there is a yellow S2K in a Chicago impound lot that I see from the train everyday. It has been bugging me for months that the owner/insurance company/policeforce/anyone has not rescued this car from its purgatory. I went to ask an employee what happens to the cars that are not claimed. She said they are "destroyed" which was painful to hear. According to her, there is no way to purchase the cars or any parts through an auction or any other means. A train rider I know claims that you CAN find these cars at auction sometimes but who knows. The car is missing its headlights and the top has been down through 3+ months of snow, rain and sun.

Does anyone know the status of this car? Can anyone save it?

The impound lot is located at the letter B in the map below
The car itself is located approximately at the letter A

That truly is disturbing. Looks like an AP2 by the bumper. I wonder if there is any way to save it.......

I'm assuming this is a police impound area. An excellent resource for these auctions as well as others is this site. I imagine this car has been stripped of many parts considering it's current condition.

Yeah, I like that site for ATV/4x4/Theftrecovery browsing.

You are correct about the parts situation; for all I know, this yellow one has no engine or trans and is basically just a shell. I wish they would let me look around there. I have seen rolled classic Broncos, Cadillacs with chrome wheels, a WRX, some old BMWs and Saabs, etc. I guess the lawman does not discriminate when it comes to cars.

Is the govauction site a legitimate site, it's like a candy store? Has anyone bought a car from there?

Another great site for vehicles. Many are salvage title, so a lot are best for parts donors only.

Another one

Another s2000 has showed up at this impound lot. This one is matte black. Its a little more complete but with some body damage. Are these cars easy to steal? I know the engines and body parts, etc are valuable but I hope this isnt going to be a common sight from my train. So sad. BTW, the yellow one disappeared about a month ago. Not sure what happened to it.

Sadly the majority of the ones listed on Copart are AP-1s, which leads me to think as the price falls on older S2000s and they become more affordable to the ricer/street racer crowd and they get in over their heads as they transition from their Civics and Integras to S2000s, we will begin to see many more of them ending up like these. Then its onto the AP-2s .... Pretty sad indeed.

I didn't see one AP-1 on Copart. I did see a lot of AP-2's. Most were 2004's with one or two later models.

Honda sold roughly 65,000 S2000's in 10 years here state side, to put that in perspective Honda sells about 65,000 Accords in 3 months. With numbers like that it is sad to see this car being being destroyed by theft, collisions and plain stupidity. I wonder how many of the 65k are actually still on the road.
