Blasphemy!!

Yes, blasphemy!! As penance, I will take her out for 10 laps on the nearest twisty road.

What do you guys think? 2016 ND Miata Club (Bilsteins and lsd) no brembo package, 6 spd (of course).
Picked her up on Monday, will report back on driving impressions, but first impressions are very positive!
The little brother to the S, can't wait on Honda to provide me with driving pleasure.

Well, this was bound to happen to one of us...congrats on the purchase! It's no substitute for the S2000, but I'm definitely glad to see Mazda return to this car's roots (MX-5s have obviously grown porkier over the years, right?). This looks like a nice, lightweight, flickable fun machine. Mazda builds nice cars, and this should treat you well; I hope you enjoy it.

And really, am I missing something? As far as easily-managed, sporting roadsters available today, I cannot think of a single car between this and a $60,000-dollar Boxster (which isn't exactly an over-achiever). Come on, somebody give us something in the middle!

Now, if I were king of Mazda, I'd have my company start remanufacturing the 3rd generation RX-7s. Even by today's standards, I still consider it one of the greatest-looking cars ever made. Most of its designers are probably retired by now, but they absolutely nailed that one, just about perfectly.

Yep, Mazda has reversed the trend of making the new car bigger, heavier and adding more power to compensate. This car is smaller, lighter, less powerful (??) than the NC. As for cute, I couldn't care less about looks. I used to have a 2006 and this car is vastly superior to the NC.

Before I got the S2k I had a low mileage, under 14k, 04 MazdaSpeed turbo Miata. Stock it came with 174hp but I had it lightly modded out to a dyno'ed 204 with a 3.60 ring and pinion in place of the 4.11. It was pretty quick but ultimately it just did not have enough to scratch my speed itch. I still think its' conventional analog dash makes the S2k's look like a Buck Rodger POS and to be honest it handled as good as the S and was very comfortable and predictable to drive hard. It just lacked power..........
I like the look of this new ND version of the MX5 much better than the last NC version. I hated the flared wheel arches and to me the interior felt plastic and cheap. Really looking forward to you driving impressions Glenn.

Will be more than happy to comply. Just waiting on the break in period. Already this puny 155 hp engine feels peppier than the NC, the handling doesn't quite have the hard edge from S, feels like a S but dialed down maybe 10 - 15%. The gearbox is good, but not quite snick snick like the S, it's a more comfortable daily driver (I must be getting old )

What do these new cars weigh? And for comparison (at the complete opposite end of the spectrum), what did those later hardtop convertible Miatas tip the scales at? I'm betting there's at least 300 pounds difference, but that's a total guess.

Under 2300 lbs from what I'm seeing to about 2600 for the prht.

This is the corporate 2.0L Mazda engine used in a number of their vehicles with some modifications for rwd and tuned for quicker throttle response using premium gas. It doesn't sing like a Honda VTEC engine, but it's serviceable. Great gas mileage (in a sports car??). The car is approx. 500 lbs lighter than a S. Car magazines say 0 to 60 in about 6 sec, it doesn't feel slow. You can drive this car at full boogie without fear of losing your driver license. Something that can't be said about the S.
