a stolen thought for saturday morning--i pity the future

"I pity that future that won't ever experience the sweet feeling of motoring in a vehicle with a large internal-combustion engine running on heavy fuel. A vehicle with a glutton's diet of pure petrochemical byproducts. A car that turns the sunshine that fell to Earth on some antediluvian day 500 million summers gone into a surge of pure speed on this fine July afternoon."

I have felt that way for years BB. I just turned 60 on the 7th of Jan and I am so glad that I have lived thru the days of muscle cars and super bikes and even managed to own a few. An hour ago I was out on my 82 Honda (of course) CBX: 1047cc of six cylinder DOHC, 24 valve perfection. Hearing it sing at 9K rpm, screaming like an F1 car and damn near running out from under you is just something that never gets old.
I pity the pimply faced nerds today with their little faces buried in their stupid I- phones with mommy whizzing around in their Prius's. Gawd, makes me wanna puke.

Well BB, waxing rather eloquently aren't we?

I wonder if a previous generation of enthusiast said the same for horses and chariots?

i know eloquent when i see it. ancient horsemen and charioteers surely felt the surge of speed. the concept of being propelled about in a machine comprised of stardust and powered by sunshine is almost certainly modern.

the ancients were at least as smart as we are. i can see an Egyptian astride a mount musing how he was flying along at speed astride a beast powered by grass or grain derived from sunlight; or piloting a chariot. they thought a lot of Ra so surely someone made the connection.

You are leaving out the archeological evidence that grain was used for beer. Perhaps they were flying along themselves powered by beer from sunlight spangled grain and malt!

when i am running on beer power my intellectual (such as it is) ability disintegrates,

wonder who the first accident victim of driving under the influence was and how it happened? might be a good short story. what was the first mounted transport?

photosynthetic activity pretty much runs everything whether you think about it or not.

The only exceptions to that are some life forms in total darkness and without O2 entombed in Antarctic ice. Might be the birthplace of communists/socialists/terrorists.

Still trying to connect the dots with photosynthetic activity and what runs most American wives.
