Car Impounded!

So I was at a red light and on the other side of the intersection the 2 lanes merged into 1. The car next to me gave it some gas so I gave it more. A cop was watching the whole thing and clocked me at 108kmh in a 50kmh zone. He took my keys and had the car impounded for 7 days for excessive speed. I got a $368 fine, $250 for the impound plus higher insurance rates. Could have been worse, could have gone to jail under the criminal code and got a record, but he gave me a break. I really miss my car. Oh and I of course beat the other guy

for you old farts out there that don't understand the metric system, this is like speeding 65 mph in a 30 mph zone.

what was the other guy driving?

why no tickey for racing?

are you less stupid now?

the other guy had a Maxima, cop didn't see it as racing and yes, next time I'll consider the brake instead of the gas. Never done it before but not going to loose it again.

You are lucky you didn't do that in Ontario. 50k over and it's called street racing, up to $10,000 fine and they take your car permanently.

I am glad I am in Texas. I would have gotten a ticket and then took defensive driving or deferred adjudication. So then the ticket would not be on my record and would not effect my insurance rates.
It's a mute point though as I would have just chilled and stayed behind the guy. I am old and boring now.
If you are caught street racing here it is a big deal but it sounds like you were just jumping on the throttle to pass the guy.

Severe penalty it seems, is speeding that much of a biggie in Canada?

How long is it or was it in the impound? A friend got his motorcycle impounded in Nanaimo once and they wouldn't let him cover it up or anything. Hope you had your top up.

I once raced a cop in a similar scenario. He gave me a thumb up and drove off! He busted me 3 days later at the same redlight. Bastard!!!
