Post Instrument panel

Every now and then my instrument display fragments. All the digital bits start flashing and after a few minutes the display is blank (or covered in bits of digital display). After the car has been switched 'off' for 30 minutes the display is ok again when the car is started. As the display comes 'back' ok I suspect the actual instrument cluster is ok.
My S2000 is 13years old (I've had the car for 10years) and this is the first real fault.
Any ideas? Fuse? Dampness (I live in Scotland)?

I've never heard of this problem before. You might want to check over on S2KI as there are more members over there. Good luck!

Sounds like a voltage regulating component is failing. If you have a 06-08 model, there is a self-test function for the cluster. First make sure the two fuses that control the cluster are making good contact. Fuse no. 5 and Fuse no. 25 are in the under dash fuse box. With the car turned off (naturally) pull those fuses and spray the fuse holders with WD-40 (or similar) to make sure that any corrosion is gone. Replace the fuses and see if the problem disappears. If that doesn't fix the problem, you'll have to enter the self diagnostic mode. Not sure if this will help, but to enter Self-diagnostic mode:

1. Push and hold the TRIP button
2. Turn the headlights ON.
3. Turn the Ignition switch ON (Do not start the car)
4. Within 5 seconds, turn the Headlights OFF, then ON and OFF again.
5.Within 5 seconds, release the TRIP button and then push and release the button three times repeatedly.
When you enter the self-diagnostic mode, then all segments of the LCD display will blink 5 times.

There's a lot more but I'd suggest you consider buying (or borrowing or finding on-line) the Service manual. The tests are on page 22-61 through 22-77. For most tests, you don't need any special equipment as the display will indicate functional or error.
