Jump Start

I noticed some comments on another forum frequented by Billman, that using "battery packs" to help start the car can lead to a rectifier failure. Symptoms include flickering dash lights. Couple hundred dollar fix.

What happens if you just do a straight jump start (12V) ? Will that blow out the rectifier or does the "off" voltage of some of those gimmicky battery packs pose the real problem?
I have never jumped my S and it almost makes me want to push start the thing if I ever need to.

So, anyone jumped their car and had issues?

I was always under the impression that push-starting doesn't work with modern, fuel-injected vehicles. Maybe I'm wrong?

Regardless, it can't be good for the driveline. I replace my battery every 4-5 years and hopefully I'll never need to worry about this.
