EPS Control unit replacement

Just took my car in to the Honda dealership to have my car diagnosed after the EPS light came on..the rep called me back and quoted me 1500$ to have the EPS control unit replaced because it went bad..has anyone had this issue in the past and how much does it cost to have it replaced thank you!

Not a common problem with the S. Do you still have steering (eps) assist, did your battery die on you just recently? What else are they replacing? May want a second opinion.

Nope the EPS light came on and the steering will went dead no assist nothing..and yup the battery did indeed die on me recently but the steering was starting to go out about a month before that happened..the light would come on and off intermittently and then eventually it just stayed on and the steering stayed like that..but yeah he called me back talking about 1500? I almost **** myself..

With the car getting older it is not out of the question but it is usually NOT the controller. Ask them for the code it is throwing and do a google search like "Honda S2000 EPS code xxx" and you should get a lot more information. There are a lot of connections and wires that make the EPS work properly and it could be any one of them. It figures your speed the amount of torque, etc, etc.

If nothing else and the entire unit is bad then I quick price check shows it at $832 here http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...ENGINE+ROOM%29 part #28.....so .

Gotta love stealerships

The dealership most likely quoted retail on the part and they're not gonna install it for free. The going labor rate at most (California) Honda service dept's is between $125 to $145/hr and they may be quoting a flat install fee.

How many miles on the car, what year, etc? (and why didn't you take it in when the problem started?)
