New head and speakers???

I was thinking about getting a Pioneer unit and JL speakers to replace the stock set up... would the sound quality improve noticeably without an amp?

I picked up Kenwood stereo and Polk audio components and I noticed a big difference without a discrete amp. Of course, if i had the money i would have put an amp in it. Really depends how much power your headunit is making and how efficient your speakers are though. I would be suprised if it wasnt better w/ any aftermarket install though- Our OEM is alittle weak sauce if you ask me

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm thinking of holding out on the amp for now... Thanks!

If you will be running components, anything other than stock, you will want an external amplifier. Clipping of a speaker damages it, and any head unit will not have the power to properly drive a set of components. Save a few more bucks, and do it all at once.

I have a pioneer head and JL speakers. Im very happy with my setup. This car doesnt have that much stereo potential anyway so spending a lot of money on it seems silly to me.

I am running a Pioneer head unit with MB Quart speakers and tweeters, no amp and that was quite a change... Sound was clearer and louder.. before i could not hear anything with the top down and now i can hear just as good as if i had it up...

you don't need an amp unless you want to crank it up to deafening decibels. you will reach your maximum comfort zone (likely) before you clip the speakers with the amp in an aftermarket head unit.
