Why did anyone think this would make sense in THIS car?... The minute my cd skipped I remembered why I love my ipod. Just saying.

My CD player has no issues, and pretty good roads in NC...but I still opt for the ipod.

Jagg I bought a 68 Peugot 404 years ago and the dude had installed an under dash 8track so he could listen to his Henry Mancini tapes... I got a car and about 60 8 tracks for $367.00

You know I think it was a Kraco! Going through the HUGE case of tapes was almost as fun as shifting the 4 speed on the column!

The etching is a decal, wanted to be able to take it off if I did not like it...

I would totally enjoy having a sand blasted logo etching in the diffuser.

it just seems right.

A local artist told me he could do it, but wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be buying a new blank one if I did not like it. Looks pretty cool, you can see it through the back glass when the top is up too.

Factory head unit is essentially worthless. The factory changer however does remarkably well (as far as skipping is concerned).

Actually, you are essentially wrong. As stated before, mine has worked perfectly for 9+ years.

For sure. I drove mine for over 2 years with the factory radio. Works fine. Only reason I switched out is I wanted to use MP3 discs (yes discs, no one ever uses them but I do lol) and with the headset only law I wanted a blutooth connection.

I agree that it is FAR from the best head unit out there, but to say it is "essentially useless" is extremely misleading to new/potentially new owners doing research.

Yeah i mean for how expensive the car was new they probably should have thrown in a better stereo but I liked it better than many other units iv used.

Thats about the least important part of this car in my opinion.

I agree. I've only had mine five months now but my original '01 stereo has not skipped yet. It's no top shelf Alpine but it works just fine. I think that "essentially useless" is taking it too far. If tunes are important to you than by all means buy a better radio. But the factory radio does in fact work so it is not useless, just sub-par.

However, it is a Alpine. You just don't want to pay the $650 OEM replacement price for one.

The factory head-unit is the same one that Honda used in the Goldwing, and does have an anti-skip buffer.

But, you are right, the car isn't worth anything because it has a CD player.

I'll give you $5 for your S2000.

I'm going out on a limb and thinking that anyone who buys/does not buy a car based on the quality of the oem head unit has their priorities misplaced. In my experience with my S, it's head unit is useless. It won't play cold cd's, and while driving, it skips like Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music. I can't speak from yours or anyone else's experience, only my own.
