Thanks for posting that. It's one of those things I've been meaning to do and just haven't taken the time. Maybe this week end.

Some people have reported bad paint/ not good looking paint under there and since yours is an AP1 (9 years old at a min) I'm not sure if I would.

Besides the chance of uncovering some paint issues, frankly the colored windshield frame just doesn't work, especially next to a top.

Exactly...if you like the look then do it. If there are some paint issues fix them if they are noticable... I bet you already have some paint issues somewhere on your car.... a scratch, a chip...something.

I have seen several do this, some the paint looks good and one other I know of I had to take a porter cable and work on a couple of bad spots. They came out easily and it looked good.

Good luck.

It was done on my 08 at the dealership, I had no choice in the matter. Those are just urban legends that Honda hid paint flaws under the tape. However if the tape has been on for a long time and the car exposed to the elements, the paint under may be cloudy. Mine is just fine.

Be careful if you do remove it. I had the dealer reattach the rubber weather stripping as they pull with the tape and require some reattaching.

I found it easier to start from the top because the bottom was just coming off in little pieces. Well the whole windshield ended up being like that.

This was from just picking at it. Then i had this idea. Blow dryer is your friend

When the skin under my nails was bleeding i decided to find something else. I found this pampered chef pot scrubber. It worked really good.

After about an hour and a half i got the top and driver side done. As you can see, where the tape has been on there for 12 years, It left a good amount of residue left.

Well when you spend about another hour with a bottle of goo gone, paper towels, and the plastic piece, you can get the rest off.

Well i love the way it looks. There isn't any paint flaws.

i will put the top up later and take better pictures.

I removed mine. Absolutely no paint issues. My car is an AP1 (2001) but the paint was fine. The only problem was a very small amount of glue residue which was easily removed with some ethyl alcohol and a rag. I actually prefer the "new" look to the plastic. Your finger will be sore afterwards though and it takes awhile to get all the plasticy stuff off.

Since there is a lot of confusion around about the tape I will say this;

Back in 2001 when the hardtops were released the plan was for Honda dealerships, when installing the hardtop for their customers, to also remove the tape around the windshield in an effort to make an even bigger impact with the new body colored top installed.
I think the fact that their have been many people with paint imperfections in that area is more a testament to the quality of the work done when removing this tape not that Honda was incapable of correctly painting that area. I don't think it just took them a few years to learn how to paint it.

Thinking about doing this to my 03 Suzuka, Other than Heat and bleeding fingers any easier way to get this off. I do have an OEM hardtop and think that for the few days of the year I have it on it would look great.

I agree with you for every color save the silver group of colors. Can't tell you why but I think that all the silvers look great without the tape.

I can't figure out whether mine would look good with the tan soft top or not. I'm worried that I will like it with the top up but not like it with the top down.

So, 85% of the time, I'll not like it!!!!

Thanks for posting all those pics, Gadgetman. When I first saw this thread (and your pictures) I thought that the "before" pics looked quite a bit better than "after". After looking at them several times over the past few days I'm pretty much leaning to removing the tape from mine too! It really looks good with that silver hoop around the windshield! Don't know about other colors, but mine is like yours and I like it!
