Hard Top questions

First, will an OEM hardtop from an '06 fit on an '08?
Second, if it will fit, how does it attach? And can I just "slap" it on or is there more to do?

You need the mounting hardware...and it's not cheap! At the very least you need the mounting brackets that mount to the car. You can not simply slap on a hardtop. Honda did not see fit to build every car ready to accept one.

A OEM hardtop will fit any S2000 from 1999 to 2009. They're all the same. Honda makes a installation kit for the hardtop. Two rear pieces (behind the seats) for the rear of the top, and the connecting cables for the rear window defogger. Go to www.hardtopguy.com and you can see the cost and availability of the mounting kit.

If you find one (whether your car stays outdoors or not), you would be VERY wise to lock it down at all four mounting points! Etch the last 6 of your VIN or the entire VIN in the glass at four corners and document with photos.

See below for a good starting point for the front latches. The rears are a little more tricky but, once you lock them in place if you do not have the required keys there is absolutely no way of taking the top off the car without completely destroying it and all the mounting hardware in the process. The top would be rendered useless to a thief. Trust me on this!

Make sure your sitting down when you price the mounting kit for the hardtop, it's very pricey!!!! You can use the soft top latches for the time being, but you will need the side catchers, and the defroster wiring loom. In time you will need the hard top latches when your soft top one's no longer hold the top tight enough.
