2008 Rio Yellow conversion to Type S

Here are some pictures of a project I started several months ago. I bought a new 2008 Rio Yellow 4 months ago. I switched the entire interior over to Club Racer and replaced the stock wheels with Club Racer wheels with Bridgestone RE-11's that are the same size as the Club Racer tires. I also added custom door handles, parking brake handle and elbow pad. I will be upgrading the suspension and brakes in the near future.

Seat Locks

Thanks for the comments. I bought the seat locks from a guy on S2KI. He is the only one that has them. I can get his info for you if you would like. Apparently he gets them from Mcgard and has the rights to the products. If you call Mcgard they will give you his name and number. They were very easy to install. They just replace the existing 2 front bolts on each seat. They come with a lock that is just a smaller version of what is used on the wheel locks and uses a ratchet. They come in a bronze like natural metal finish. I had mine black teflon coated at a local gun shop so they would match the interior perfectly.

Lookin' good there. Now, give the admiration a rest...Stop taking pictures and go drive the damn thing! It's the only cure for rotors that rusty

Just curious...did you spend over $45,000 bucks on all this, as a whole?

Kodokan_4 on S2KI has the McGard seat locks. You send him a copy of your S2k registration (you can blank out the VIN if it makes you feel better) and he'll sell you a set.

And why did you go to all that trouble to convert your S2k to a CR when you could have bought one for less?

thanks sent him a PM.

i think his body kit is the non-CR version. might be the same front lip but definitely a different spoiler.

and..... he has the convenience of a soft-top. kind of a pain asking the wife to help me take off the roof anytime i wanna go driving, especially when she's mad at me

OEM front lip and trunk spoiler. Neither are CR parts. HMC has two different spoilers for the trunk. He has the one you don't see much.

Frogman, if you decide to go all the way on your CR/Type R conversion, here are a few more things you can change: Exhaust silencer/muffler (CR has it's own part# more growl to the exhaust) rear brace (will lose the spart tire) stiffer mounted steering rack with quicker steering ratio (don't think this will be possible) peak power indicator on instrument cluster. More things to spend money on.....

I was about to say all that. Beat me to it. You'd need to gut the soft top to put the brace in and remove the spare tire and tools. Then get a hardtop. I assume that the quicker steering ratio probably makes a big difference too. I have an Ap1(13.8 ) and my old Acura had the 14.9 just like the Ap2 and it makes such a difference how much quicker and more responsive my S2K is and how the tiniest inputs make a huge difference. I'm sure that'a huge part to the CR vs Ap2. But you say the quicker steering can't be done? Why's that?

Converting to CR

I like the CR but just was not a fan of the hard top only.

Well thats a heck of a way to do it but it looks great. Do the CR models have the yellow laced steering wheel or was that custom? It looks good.

Ahh, that explains it. Nice job but a lot of work. The CR steering wheel has the yellow lacing.

Looks fantastic. Mine's a yellow CR. I LOVE how it handles, but secretly wish for the conveniences of the nonCR version.

Type S conversion

Thanks for all the post and comments. I just wanted to add a little more info to how I started this project. I really like what Honda did with the Club Racer minus the hard top only option. I also like the Rio Yellow color, my personal favorite. Then I read that Honda had made a Club Racer with a soft top and named it the Type S. I was already looking for a Rio Yellow S on line. I lucked up about 5 months ago and found a new 2008 Rio Yellow on the showroom floor of a Honda dealership in TN. I bought the car and started looking for the Club Racer interior and wheels. I decided not to replace my factory front spoiler or rear wing. I finally got the wheels and interior completed about a month ago. I am also not going to do the dash, suspension or exhaust. I have decided to add my own touch to the suspension by adding J's Racing rear lower arm bar, J's Racing engine torque damper and tower bar, Swift sway bars front and rear, a MUZ X brace from Australia and a Mugen exhaust. In the near future I will be adding stop tech brakes and pads front and rear. I also have all black badging to add when I get the time.

These are items I have added to customize the car to me: Skunk 2 solenoid cover, Skunk2 battery tie down, Skunk2 radiator cap, Skunk2 oil filler cap, Polk audio db651s door speakers, NEO car audio I-pod connector, K&N air filter, Password JDM hood dampers, Password JDM black aluminum washer fender kit, J's S2K key hole covers and JPM Coachwork's custom elbow pad, door handles and emergency brake handle.
