HARDTOP help please !

hello ! im really new to this site... shoot i just got a s2000 2 nights ago ! Bought a plane ticket to the OC and brought it over to San Jose... 6 hour drive home whooot ! Problem is... on the way home it was obvious something was wrong... The VIS hardtop was not installed on properly or something was missing. He said i needed seals or something but im not sure really if thats the case. The car has a gap on the driver side... like 1/3 inch gap... and when i drive it blows wind across my ears... On top of that The roof rattles a lot too... Any help would be great !

Sounds like the roof strikers are out of spec and the rear latches are incorrectly installed. (Was the person you bought this car from about 18 years old?) This line from VIS is rather interesting as well: Modification is required for the installation. -Off road use only.
I don't think they're kidding. You'll have to realign the latch strikers and latches as well as the rear mounts to get rid of the noise and air leaks..(good luck when it rains...bring an umbrella). I'd take that top off and use the soft top...he did leave the soft top, right?

1st with the soft top search soft top on the threads on s2ki theres a link where you can purchase a new one for a decent price installing may be difficult depending on your knowledge on convertibles, if not take it to a shop have a pro do it. 2nd with your hard top you sure you have all the weather strips on? and the rubber seal that goes around the back of the hardtop? keep in mind hearing the hard top rattle a bit is ...aftermarket tops arent 100% unless you get the oem from what i hear. Your best bet is get a friend to help you take off the hard top then readjust the hardtop to a snug fit and tightin the bolts evenly on each side if its still noisy go to a local auto shop and get another set of weather strips. As for the rip on your s2dizzle i had the same issue like many of us. Since i had the mugen replica hardtop i yanked out the soft top 150+ pounds off the car is great! its not too difficult just alot of dissassembling and you dont have to take off the seats either!!! let me know if this helps

Soft tops are not the easiest things to do, not to mention there expensive. Replica hardtops like the one I have, take some tinkering to get to sit perfectly and make NO squeeks or noise. I have heard from guys with oem though that theres is still not 0 noise. Theres not much to them, just bolted down on the side, depending on the side hardware mine has a bolt that goes through two brackets. One on the car one on the hardtop, See if you can tighten it down a little more to pull it down, also make sure there is a rubber grommet between the two... If that makes any sense I may just be rambling

When you take the HT off, remember that the bulk of the weight is in the rear. Focus on grabbing it near the beginning of the rear panel.

haha...

I just flew to la 2 weeks ago and bought a s2k (and it has a vis hardtop) and brought it back to san jose...

I have the wind noise on both sides and its bad... its not the strikers. your gonna have to get some weather stripping. The hardware for the vis is ****... you have to remove the bolts to make your soft top go up. But my soft top is in terrible condition. So im lookin for a softop too.. Good luck!

O yeah and people driving down from la to the south bay.. Drive slowly on 152. I fn cracked my new painted asm lip in half :/

You shouldn't drink and drive...(or did you mean you didn't notice the road dropped 20 feet in front of you?)

I found the weather strip for my side in the back of my seat and wind noise decreased ! but im still missing the one in the back i believe.. Maybe thats why its making so much noise ! Thanks a lot to everyone on this site though.. Im 19 and worked every penny for this car ! came from a honda accord 97... 256k miles... to a lancer... to a solara.. to a s2000 ! AND BOY SHES A KEEPER !
