How to reset the "Maint Req" light

If your Maint Req light is flashing, it is simply a reminder to change your oil. It starts to flash after about 5,000 miles since it's last reset and will stay on after about 7,000 miles. To reset it, follows these steps:

1. With the engine off. hold down the trip button and turn the key to the 'on' position.

2. Continue to hold until the light goes out.

3. Turn the key to the 'off' position.

4. Turn the key back to the 'on' and the light should not flash any longer.

just FYI, since some folks aren't sure. If you do this process before the maint. light comes on, you will get the same result.

Example:
if you reset the light at 4,000 miles, even though it was not flashing, it will be reset to zero.

So does the blinking maintainance light indicate its almost time for service? It blinks a couple times after starting the car then goes away.. Just not sure if thats all it does or is it giving me time to get it done then constant after past due?

so basically the maintenance light for the s2k is ONLY for the oil changes and nothing else like battery, etc.?

So this means the guy that has been changing my oil the last two years has been going through this process to reset the oil change light? I'll check tomorrow. I'll be impressed.

On my 2007, the little wrench symbol (Maintenance Minder) also indicates other maintenance items based on some number and letter combos that show up on the left side of the display when the engine oil life % number is displayed. Information on this is in the owner's manual.

Hope this helps.

Awesome! I've be doing my own oil change but couldn't seem to get rid of the maintenance light for sake. I randomly press buttons hoping that it would reset the meter back to 100% and quit flashing. But all I did was reset my Trip A/B. haha great help!

From the oil life percentage screen, push and hold down the trip button until the percentage indicator starts flashing. Continue to hold down the trip button and the percentage will reset to 100%. In all about 30 seconds.

^^see the first post. 04's have the maint req'd flashing light instead of the maintenance minder system which came into effect in 2006.

So if you are changing your oil at 3000 miles, and you reset the oil to 100% each time, will that affect other scheduled (based on milage) maintenance items from showing up? I know a CEL is independent of that.

yes, it will. It will throw off other scheduled maintenance such as changing brake fluid/coolant, inspecting brakes and changing plugs, other inspections, etc. If I am doing oil changes at 3k miles, I wouldn't reset to 100% just to keep other items in their proper rotation. If you have the Service History Guide for the car, check the items listed under the maintenance schedule (Maintenance A, B, 1,2,3...etc). However, if you're doing old school maintenance, none of this would apply
