Loss of power while driving

Hello all

I am stuck with a very strange issue. I get a sudden loss of power at random times. It can be in any gear and at any revs. It feels like someone has engaged the clutch and nothing is driving the wheels. If I put my foot on i
the clutch the engine revs up. If I then change down gear and engage the engine again it is like it is engine braking me. I can feather the throttle and it seems like the engine is engaging but no drive. It will suddenly kick back in and pull again. It happened to me on the motorway today and was slightly on the scary side when your speed just plummets and you have no way of powering it out. As I say the engine revs seem fine when clutch is pushed. Needed to engage clutch to stop the engine braking.
This has happened a few times now and I am at a loss as to what it is.

Anyone else had this sort of issue? Or know any starting point to look at.

Thanks in advance for your help
