Bad Cat

Long time, no see you guys and gals.
So I'm on my second cat. My first one (2001 S) went rattling and broke my secondary O2 sensor, another S friend gave me another used cat that's lasted 2+ years and now it's rattling and throwing a a code for the secondary O2 sensor again. I know that the innards of the cat have broken off the tip of the O2 sensor like it did before (my S sounds like a diesel). My question is: is it going to cause harm to my engine or just be a problem when i go to smog check in California? I'm going to replace it, I just want to know if it's doing harm. I tend to throw CEL's for cylinder 1 & 2 as there is a leak between cylinders 1 & 2. This is happened since 70K and I have 151k on the clock. Being my DD, i haven't had a chance to pull the head. No chocolate milkshake oil or coolant or cumulous clouds out my tail pipes, there must be a leak between cylinders 1 & 2 as confirmed by my compression and leak down tests.
Okay to drive with the cat honeycomb broke loose or am I looking at major problems?

The cat is probably not an issue but the leak between 1 and 2 darn sure is. The only way a cross cylinder leak is possible is a bad head gasket. Left long enough the hot gasses will create a groove between the adjacent cylinders. If the leak is on the top side of the HG then you damage the head if it is on the lower side you damage the block. You easily ruin a block or a head.

Well, I'm probably F'd. 80k since I started getting the CEL and finally dx'd at 100k.
But thanks for the info. I guess drive it til it dies.

C'mon man, at least $150. I've got an aftermarket cup holder.
