Engine Swap

I have an 01 Ap1 with a bad motor. What, if anything, would I have to have to do to swap in an Ap2 motor. I am just trying to see what my options are. I am running the AEM ECU so I will be able to tune it.

Siko,

I'm no mechanic, however, my 03 has an 04 2.2 and I believe it was a direct swap? Not too sure? I did a complete rebuild on the 2.2 from the tranny up. Quite pricy!!!! Probably would have been cheaper to swap, but I now have a "new engine!" And a lot of miles to go on it.

I will never sell this car unless I quit driving and then will give it to one of my adult children. If you're just looking for som fun, a swap might be the ticket and I believe that these engines are available.

Just a bump for you!

It is in fact a direct swap so nothing special needs to be done. Just make sure the AP2 motor is 04-05 cause the 06+ use drive-by-wire and what not so that would be a lot more complicated and not a direct swap from what I understand.

Thanks for the info. If the block on my motor is bad I will see if I can find a 2.2 motor.
