Question Throttle cutoff?

So today I was just driving a little, and I felt like having a bit of fun so I stepped on it in first gear, then I hit around 6000 RPM's, around VTEC, and the throttle just cutoff even though I was still holding down the throttle. I was just getting out of my neighborhood when this happened, so I'm thinking that maybe because it was when the engine was still cold?

ALSO; (I was having alot of weird mistakes driving today... ) Does my Ap1 2002 S2000 have a rev limiter???? Because I went into the redline today, and it scared me that I could've done something to the engine. (This was after the whole throttle cutoff thing happened, the engine was warmer)

I know the AP2's have a 6k rpm cutoff if the engine doesn't have at least 3 bars on the temp scale.

I heard AP1's also have the 6k rpm cutoff if the engine hasn't reached a certain number of bars also....Just not sure how many bars.

Revving up a cold engine is a good way to shorten it's life. The majority of engine wear occurs when you start up. When the car is warmed up taking it to red line is fine. That's why the cutoff is there.

The car will not go into VTEC when it is cold. It does exactly what you described. The throttle essentially cuts off the gas. It's designed to keep people from doing damage to the engine. I don't know about the AP-1, but the AP-2 has a over-rev limiter (for acceleration only. If you're driving 65mph and decide to shift to 1st, you might plan on looking for a new engine because there's no over-rev limiter for stupidity ).

AP1's won't engage VTEC until it is fully warmed up (3 bars) to protect the engine. Wait until you've warmed up to 3 bars then have fun.

And you just can't fix stupid, either.

Your S2000 has a rev limiter at 9200 rpm. Its ok to hit it occasionally, its there to keep you from over-revving it.

If you downshift into a gear too low for the speed you are going, you can cause damage.
