What is the lowest speed for cruising in 6th gear?

I generally won't shift into 6th until 45 mph, is that too slow?

you could string her out a smidge....I doubt you're hurting it........you're with it long enough to know the difference.

she'll shake 'n rattle if ya bog it down too hard.

bb likes to cruise at 4000-4500 rpm. i probably keep it under that. she will do 3000 but ya gotta treat her nice. she likes to keep the rpm up; she says it doesn't hurt her, but that it "feels good." she says at 45 in 6th gear, "you got nothing." we are driving the same car, aren't we? just remember, 6th is your second overdrive cruising gear, unless you are doing about 120 mph.

I don't think that I ever shift up to 6th unless i'm doing at least 70. Coming down I might let 'er drop to 60 or so before going to 5th.

On the highway I cruise at 65-70 (Garden State Parkway - NJ) but will drop down to 5th if I drop below 60 mph. Maybe even to 4th if I anticipate having to change lanes fast.

As bbcricketta said our S2000s love to rev. So why not keep her happy !

Yeah, different for an AP1 or AP2, Doug. My AP2, I'd say about 45 while just cruising and in no hurry.

If i'm accelerating onto the highway fast i'll shift to 6th at around 70ish (75mph speed limit). But I won't cruise in 6th unless i'm doing about 60. 5th is good for me from about 45ish to about 55/60.

One thing to keep in mind is that low revs don't always mean better gas mileage because if you're bogging(first of all never good for you engine) but also you'll find you're pushing on the gas pedal more just to keep the car going at the same speed and that decreases gas mileage significantly.

Dang ill burry the needle getting onto the highway. I put it into sixth once im at 80 and am comfortable in my lane lol. Other wise its redlining though third until im up to speed. I normally go from 3rd or 4th to 6th.

The lowest speed i would cruise in 6th is 55. I would also have to know that I was going to be at that speed for more than a minute or two. Otherwise thats the only time I use 5th. 5th is pretty much for the track or breaking the law lol.

Doesn't the manual have "recommended" shifting speed? I know my 04 Accord Sedan (5 speed yay) says shift into 5th at like 45 according to the manual. Again, just a "recommendation" lol.

Bogging is what occurs to a thread whenever you post.

45 in 6th is ok. Having said that, I wouldnt cruise in 6th unless I was on the highway and wasnt doing a lot of speed changes. 5th is better for the streets (speed limits are about 40 so I go 55).

I thought the owners manual says no 6th gear below 52 mph? I drove the truck today so I can't go check, but that's what sticks in my memory.

Alot of what speed you can use for 6th gear depends on the terain. If you are in an area that is level without any hills, a lower speed would be appropriate for 6th. While in a hilly area the same speed that is good when it flat may be too slow for going up hill.

i keep my manual shift advisory bible in the cup-holder at all time so that i can refer to it as needed.

I just basically absorbed from it that anything under 3K rpm is not good for the engine. check the recommended shift speeds - they keep you over 3K rpm when upshifting.
