Exclamation S2000 Cold Air Intake

Hey Guys!

Whats the best Cold Air Intake to purchase for a 99 S2000? I've seen a few, AEM, K&N & Injen... only K&N seem to stock intakes for 99, will the 00-09 model intakes work on a 99? (sorry if this is a stupid question, just wanna clarify).

Thanks in advance!

There isn't one if you want any real power increase. If you want a sound change, you need to listen to some to see which one you like best.

passwordjdm intake has proven gains. Just costs 3 times as much as the others like aem. If your interested check it out at my favorite site for mods.

yes the password jdm is about 1000 plus dollars, the best cold air tube intake would be in my opinion the aem v2 which is roughly 280 to 350 depending where you buy it. To be hones with you its really just a tube if you get lucky you can find one on ebay for half the price you, I would just buy a knew filter if its used obviously. Thats my .2's.

If you go the used rout you could just keep the filter and have it cleaned at your local mechanic. They just put it in a machine and it comes out good as new. I do to once a month to mine. My mechanic doesn't charge me anything.

HOLY COW!!!! $999.99 for an air intake.....
People, come on...seriously, is it made from gold?!!
What makes it worth a thousand bucks? gaining 3-4hp...maybe 10, so what?
...
Sorry, I'm a bit shocked here.

You seem very confident about what you're saying where most S2k owners here and in other forums agree that there is a small gain out of an air intake in the s2000.
....
I just checked a couple of links, and guess what aem v2 produces 8.6hp gain at a REAL dyno test. It makes sense to pay $350 for this, but 3x times the price, I don't think so.

Would Engine heat be a problem though?

actually not that I can tell although you could go the extra and put a stainless plate behind it to sorta "block the heat" if you want. but once the airbox is outta there you have alot of open space for it to pull from all that pipe is, is a acura integra "big bang" intake and a 90 degree elbow, 2 couplers and a filter. just looked it up and could build it again for 23 dollars from ebay. and like I said if you want, go to a metal supply place or place that builds trailers and get a piece of scrap stainless, form it how you want and rivet that bad boy on there! mines not brand name, or exspensive but if aem is getting 8.2 hp from theres i probably got 5-6 outta mine and to me 2-3 horse power isnt worth another 300-1000 bucks! just my .02 cents though, others may feel different. but hey! I'll sell you a "brads-s2" intake for 100 bucks! lol

There isn't an intake in the world for this car that will give you anything more than 5 hp...if that. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something (or, maybe they just bought something).

Sorry, I'm a bit shocked here.
It costs 1K because its made of dry carbon fiber and weighs like 4lbs. It has been dynoed for 11.6hp gain at peak. However it probably wont make that in 1st or 2nd gear because your not moving fast enough. My theory on why it makes so much hp is the intake mounted in the bumper and the shape of the intake. sos told me the claim is true. Another big reason to buy it over the aem is it looks alot nicer. Personally I think its one of the best mods for both looks, sound, and performance. I would rather spend 1K on something that actually makes power and looks good than waste 350 on something that does none of those things.

Though I haven’t gotten around to trying it yet, but, it would seem to me that the standard airbox mod, coupled with a cutting an opening below the stock intake in the plastic piece that separates the front of the radiator from the radiator, then adding a piece of abs or frp between the middle of the grill and the radiator mounting frame, to direct some of the airflow up, would be as effective as that $1000 carbon fiber monstrosity.

I doubt it would be as effective and it would look a lot worse lol. Just my opinion though.

Hey and thats alright. Its just an opinion. The best reason not to buy something is you dont want it or dont like it. I do like it so and I think its worth it so I will probably get it. Unless sos comes out with there individual throttle system. Ill have to see what that looks like

WOW!... I wouldnt be looking at spending 1K on a pipe, but its all good.

I ended up buying K&N Cold Air Intake. Was looking at the AEM, but it didnt seem to have ones that fit the 99... Confused me a little, thats why I went with K&N.,
