2004 S2000 faster then a 350z?

i have a question regarding the 2004 s2, if the 2000+ model s2000 are 240 hp and if its a 50/50 chance of winning the 350z due to the weight of the s2000 ( remember 350 has more hp ), wouldnt the 2004 s2000 be faster then a 350z because of the 260 hp it puts out. many on this forum and others had dyno tests and said the car seems to put out 260 but yea... so thats my question

The 04 s2k is way faster than the 350z!!!! How do I know this.... I have an 04 and I smoked the shiet out of a 350z!!!! I had a car and a half lead on the quarter mile... And all I have is a AEM cold air intake and I launched at 4300 rpm... Don't be fooled s2k are fast with the right driver... All you have to to is launch at 4300rpm and keep it steady... I even I beat 03 WRX with complete HKS air flow and had a car lead.... Lol!!!!

AHAHAHHAH!!!! Thats awesome!!!
Yeah, I don't know what's going on with the HP, same as far as I know it, but I do know that the tranny is re-done, with closer gears from 1-4 vs. the '03 and below, match that with more torque as the did, and you got a car that is faster off the line.

I'm just moving into this forum formally a Volkswagen driver, and man, you guys are a riot.

I'm not sure where people are getting the info that a '04 puts out 260hp. The best 99% of people can do is dyno for rwhp and broken-in 01-03 S's have averaged 200 hp. Few if any have unbolted their engine and measured crank hp. But, the assumption is that 200 rwhp is consistent with Honda's claim of 240 crank hp.

There have been no dyno charts I've seen of 04s showing significantly more than this. The variation from dyno to dyno (mustang dynos for example) , elevation and other factors can be as much as 10%

I own an S2K and have raced 350Z in stock form and I will never say that the S is hands down a faster car. The cars are about as close in a straight line as one can get.

Launch Technique

Any body give me a reccomended launching technique. Also, how is your experience with the wear on the clutch, tranny, differential, tires, etc. My boss just bought a 350Z and I would love smoke him in a race. HA!

LOL! Please tell me you're kidding. These cars are NOT about off the line.

And I agree with Phil. Smokin' your boss is unlikely to garner you any favorable consideration within the company.

It depends what year 350 it is. The later years rev higher and make more power. The S can take the early model but not sure about the higher revving model.

Smile Fanesty Racing

It warms my heart to see the community is concerned about my downward inclined career.

I understand the S isn't an ideal drag race car. I have about 5 track weekends under my belt and have been amazed how as my technique gets better and cornering speed gets faster, how the car still grips through the corners.

With Stewie packed away during the winter snows, can't blame a brother to do a little mental/fanstasy racing. Smoking the boss puts a smile on my face as I drift off to a long winters nap.

I just happen to have a dyno chart comparing an 03 to an 04. The 03 136 ft/lb 203 Hp, the 04 146 ft/lb 210 Hp. I don't own either, I have an 07 and I didn't buy it to drag race. I bought it for the handling as I autocross. In an autocross a stock S2000 of any year will easily beat a Z of any vintage with equal drivers. In any event there is not a huge difference in the performance of any of the newer cars that one sees at a typical autocross. Even many sedans are quite comptetitve. The driver makes the biggest difference.

Just run him up to the base of the ski area - once you get ahead you should beat him by a couple minutes. (wait til the snow comes off the road though!)

I know where they're getting their numbers. They're getting them out of thin air )

I'm starting to realize this is the first stepping stone for "boy racer wannabes". No disrespect for the more knowledgeable posters. You know who you are.

Anyways, the 350z would be close. I know, because it's close to my boxster s too, in a straight line. However, on road course track, the Z's a bit heavy and I'm about a 1-2 sec ahead on a tight track with ~1:14 lap times I've ridden in one also and his brakes were fading after 15min of hard use.

BTW the fastest guy out there was a hot shoe s2k driver running 112's, but he had full race slicks 275's, race suspension, cage, wing, intake, exhaust, CF body parts, the works. He was a regional AutoX champ a few years ago as well. I was in full street trim with street rubber. I'll see if I can catch him this year.

Try JATO it will save most of the mechanical parts. This is a sports car not a dragster. Follow me into a turn sometime at 80 mph and see what is left of your car after the wrecker and the ambulance takes you away.

A 350 Z is 1000 lbs heavier than it should be.

Let's see: 3300lbs - 1000 = 2300lbs yeah it would be a lot quicker.

The 03-06 (DE) Nissan 350z would be more of a drivers race

The 07 and up (HR) Nissan 350z > S2K

2004 faster than 350Z

hey man...i got an 2006 S2000 and the 2004 are the same thing mechanically, i raced a 350Z at the dragstrip, he got me off the line due to the V6 that hes got more low end torque but i got to him in 3rd and 4th gear, he did 14.5 i did 14.1.......the only 350Z faster than the S2000 is the last year, the 2008, they do high 13s in the track

Actually the 03-06 (DE) 350z's is capabale of 13.9-14.2 (similiar to S2k) / the 07-08 (HR) runs 13.4 -13.7 which is a good bit faster than S2k.

I've beaten plenty of "faster" cars at the drag strip my self, it doesn't mean my car is "faster" it means I was the better driver that day.

Its just amazing to see how your car can corner right? You think "a little faster, a little more faster" and One day your going to push your beyong its limits and crash. CAREFUL! (Knocking wood)
