Is now the time to sell?

As much as i love my honda, i am looking to upgrade. kelly blue book on my car is slowly increasing to numbers higher than what i purchased it for. Its saying in perfect condition $15,017. I know i wouldn't get a perfect price but i have not seen it this high.

I am saving up to purchase a Maserati Coupe. My mom had a maserati spyder for a few years and it was a great car. the f1 transmission had some issues so i will be getting the 6-speed.

To get to my point, do you guys think 15k sounds reasonable for my car?

it is a 2000 with 84000 miles. recent motor work not even 1000 miles ago. it has aftermarket parts but noting crazy. But i did find out during the build that it has a jdm motor. so its not the original.

Depends a lot on your location...but a used car no matter what it is; is only worth what someone will pay for it...if that makes any sense. Someone may pay $15k easily, while someone else would not.

Last year i had it on ebay for a while when i had another "i want to sell" phase, and someone from Miami was gonna pay 11 cash for it but i changed my mind on selling it. I think im gonna list it back up again.

as rare as s2000s are around here, i want something most people have never seen. Besides the Maserati we had, i have never seen another.

and two extra seats and a bigger trunk for my golf clubs would be nice

I just ran the numbers on my car (02 with 39K miles). KBB shows a private party fair of $17.5K, Edmunds shows $8841 for a clean car! Me thinks the market is a little whacked right now. Personally, 15K for yours sounds a little high.

Def high for a 2000 with that many miles. Someone would have to be pretty desperate and lazy to pay that price. Sorry

The used car market was crazy for a bit so its hard to predict prices right now, I have a feeling its going to calm down since it seems like new cars are selling okay again.

The used car market is nuts right now. If you go by asking prices, we could sell my wifes Highlander for what we paid two years ago even though we've put lots of miles on it. Also, my 4runner is worth more today than it was two years ago as well. That's part of the reason I sold my S. It was worth more than I paid so I cashed in.

But I think $15k for your car is high, at least here in the NW. AP2's get that much and more, but not AP1's. But I really only follow the local market. Maybe where you are you can do better.

Might want to wait till spring. That's the typical time for buyers of this type car and they usually will bring more in private sales.

IMHO: October is not the best time to sell a convertible.

When people ask me how much they should sell their car for I always say, "depends on how long you want to wait". Someone might pay 15K... but you might have to wait a month or two to find them. If you wanna sell quickly your going to have to give them a bargain.

For an s2k the time to sell is when you are finished with the whole s2000 driving experience.

If you sell, you have to assume you're not coming back and if you do it will be at a higher price.

Your selling price willl just tell you the cost of the fun you had.

( btw - a few $k one way or another on your s2k may be chump change compared to upkeep on an Italian exotic)

What do you think would be a fair price?

You make a good point. i have enjoyed the time i was had with it for sure but i am wanting something quite a bit more luxurious.

A few $K is definitely chump change for the maserati. brakes alone are like $800. Not a daily driver at all

Are you sure about selling your car, because as according to me 15k is not a reasonable price for the car because the car is really looking in good condition...

Hell I was in Chicago for a week and missed it, cant imagine what it would be like if I sold it.

Oh and that maserati coupe is sexy, I see them quite often down here. Maserati moved away from the F1 tranny I think in '08 and began using the same tranny found in the BMW 7 series, definitely an upgrade but still not perfect.

Well friend, now listen carefully, if you are determined to sell the car, no need to be much talkative about it because you already hev your mind set for it. So, just do what you want.

Ya, but he can always buy another one. Plus it's a great time to upgrade.....lower miles, newer, better condition, different color, etc. Ask me why I think this way.

Hmm I too think that it is the best reason and the most important thing is the best quality even if it costs some extra pennies.

Sell!

You certainly sound ready to make a move..... Don't wait till you will get desperate to make the changeover to something you have your mind set on. Now, what IS encouraging, is the appreciated percieved value of our older S's......
