Got caught doing 110 in a 65.

(It wasn't a radar stake out. He just happened to be driving by when I entered I-95 in MA.

Cop had two questions:
1. Do you know how fast you were going?
I answered "too Goddamn fast."
he snickered.

2. What were you doing, cleanin out the pipes?
I answered "no sir."

He ask for my license and registration. He didn't even radio in to check for warrants or anything. He told me to "slow down" and sent me on my way. (No bull$hit)

Now-a-days cops don't need to "radio in" the check for warrants and such. They can find that out on the in car computer before they even hit the lights to stop you.

I'm almost having a hard time believing a cop anywhere is going to let someone skate going 45 miles per hour over the speed limit.

I agree, at that point it wasn't relevent - attitude made it a ticket, arrest, or "go on" stop. Nice work, Doug!

Dude, you better go to church every day for the next 365 days because that's how much you need to thank God that you not only did not get a ticket, but also get arrested for Reckless Driving, Endangerment, have the car impounded, and your license revoked. Not suspended...revoked.

Like GM3 said, "Luck" doesn't even describe the break you got.

Yep. I'd say you were lucky.

However, myself and other co-workers have let people go without tickets for doing +40 miles per hour over the limit on several occasions. All of them have been on the freeway though. IMO it seems you did everything right.... after you were pulled over. You knew that you were going too GD fast, and you had the right attitude.

A traffic stop is a crap shoot, for the cop and the driver, only the stakes are bigger. Couple weeks ago, I paced a vette going 105ish. I lit him up and as we were pulling over I ran the plate. We can get alot of info from running a plate, but it isn't quite like Dean says it is. From the info I got, I was ready let this fish go back in the water. But not all fish are predictible. I'm standing behind the B pillar getting ready to speak and he shoved his license and balled up insurance card out to me, "Just write me the f^*(ing ticket!" I fulfil the demands in the form of a 100 in a 65 ticket.
The next day, catch another one. It was a bike, going the same speeds like the vette. He was expecting a ticket, but his attitude was 10 times better when I was asking him questions. Had to run him (policy thing) and he was clear. The only time he broke his cool and when he got his DL and insurance back. He has happier.

Dean, this is a holy quest that you must go on. Tell your followers that when the dragon with the red and blue lights approaches from behind maintain your positive attitude, and keep some sence of humor in reserve. But if you're not into the holy stuff, tell your buds what happed and how they can learn from it.

A few months ago, I was on I-95 north of Boston and got tagged doing 89 in a 65. This was a MA state trooper btw. It wound up being a $20 ticket for speeding and a $20 ticket for driving in the left lane (which apparently is only to be used for passing in MA).

And I thought I was lucky!

It's interesting, but evidently, the troopers in MA have discretion on the amount of the ticket. I know in TX, a similar ticket would have been north of $200.

BTW, glad to see you back SXY!!

When I got my first ticket in the S, I was doing 86. I saw the lights go on, pulled over right away. The cop walks up and before he got to say "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I said "Yup, I was speeding". I was very polite and he was real nice and said, "I'm sorry but I have to write you a ticket." He didn't have another cop in the car and I thought "No you don't." He was kind enough to write it up for 80 in a 65 but he would have been kinder to shine it.

Sounds like a typical So. Cal Cop. However in Boston some Trooper is telling people driving 45 miles per hour over the speed limit to "slow down" and have a nice day.

"Sounds like a typical So Cal cop" because he wrote a ticket?

Cop was polite, and even bumped the speed down. But because he wrote the ticket, it makes him a "typical So Cal cop"?

You sound like a typical junior high kid who's sitting in detention-- and has the nerve to be mad at the teacher who caught him smoking in the bathroom.

Easy Nancy.....My point is it's not that uncommon for cops (In So Cal.) to cite a person 5-10 miles per hour under the speed they could be cited for.
