Can't Wait!

Hi all,
To introduce I live in upstate NY in my garage. A girl can't be any more at home than in my 6 bay club house surrounded by my tools n toys! My stable already includes an 87 944, 06 WRX, 01 Range Rover, 99 Amigo and 00 3500, among a few other guests. Story is I'm in the works of adding an s2k to my garage family! (its a birthday gift to my self ) I'm hoping to buy end of winter to spring time. The car will be garage kept, summer driven only and will only suffer sum modification because the car will be strickly summer, I don't see the need to purchase just as the new york winter approches. yuck. Not to mention the winter punching bag of my stable (99 izusu amigo) is getting a fresh coat, and is currently dismembered in the bay I hope to park my new toy in. I will begin my searching early january (as of right now) for an 04 or newer s2k in white w/ tan interior between 0-36k w a clean title for 17-22 grand, depending on how my finances fair through the winter months. any recommendations on what i should keep an eye out for or anything that would be useful to have in my garage specifically for working on s2ks? and whatcha all think about buying dealer vs. private?
Thanx 4 reading the ramble,
stay fast
TH

A rich, mechanically inclined girl. Even BETTA!
I saw an 04 white and tan and it was gorgeous.
Nice choice. The price was 17,900 with 40k miles.

White S's look amazing good taste but i saw go with black interior it hides stains and wear better than tan would thus helping keep the value up. Other than that good luck looking and welcome.

You might get a much better price now
as opposed to waiting for spring. Prices typicallay go up
as warmer weather approaches.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

i want to race your 87 944 with my 88 mr2. the only tool you need is a rachet and a 17 mm socket for oil change. s2000 filter wrench will come in handy too.

Cool, most of them are near Albany. Ithaca is nice in the fall, apple pie and hot cider.

Tan on white, my fave. I was in a hurry when I bought my silver car last year, so did not have the luxury of holding out.

Here are a few thoughts on acquiring one. First, in terms of $$, your timing could not be better. You will save $2-3k buying one in the next 4months vs spring.

Next, I think buying one from a dealer is a mistake. You are obviously mechanically inclined, and these cars really don't need expensive warranties. As opposed to Boxsters for example (out of your mind to start one without a drivetrain warranty). Suggest you avoid dealers.

Here is a search tool that will hit a number of Craigslists all at once.

http://crazedlist.org

Very useful when in pursuit of a specific car like this.

Just me maybe, but I like original owner cars and like to see service records. I don't like buying cars from Boy Racer types either. I always ask the owner to drive a few miles first, during a test drive. If they thrash the car, hitting Vtech regularly (especially before 3 bars on the temp gauge), run don't walk, away,

Also, make your offers dependent on the result of a Carfax + pre-purchase inspections. Usually cost 1-2hours of shop time in a good garage. $$ well spent. If you find a low mileage 2004+, especially original owner, unlikely there will be probs. But you never know.

Good luck and keep us posted on your hunt. Gonna be a lot of fun!
