Gas Savings
Looking for better fuel economy in my s2000, the Honda 2000cr for 08 does not come with a spare tire, only an aerosol can for emergency's. With the price on gas on the constant rise , and continueing to increase to what seems no end, It just might be worth it in the long run to remove the spare tire and carry a can, especially for the guys who run a lot of miles.
I guess I have been lucky as I have never in 30yrs of driving had to change a flat tire on the highway etc, and with the technology available I'm sure we will possibly see the end of a "spare tire" being included with new vehicle purchases Neil |

My first suggestion to everyone to save fuel is slow down.

My daily driver is a 2000 Chevy Metro I picked up for $300. It's a 1.0 liter 3 cylinder 5 speed. Best $300 I've spent in a LONG time. It gets 50-55mpg but only has 55 hp. Hasn't had a problem in the 25,000 miles I've driven it either. (has 145,000 on it now)

I've been riding my Kona mountain bike to work (45 min. to 1 hour round trip). I saved about $150 in gas last month and have lost 12 pounds since April 1st. 12 more pounds to go and I'll be able to fit in my bikini (j/k). My goal is to be under 200 lbs. by July 1, 2008.
I do miss the vtec though.

The CR is designed as a track car. The reason why it does not have the spare tire is for weight reduction. It does not come with air conditioning and radio as well. All of these is in the effort to reduce its weight, not for gas milage!

Ya really gotta cut the weight, then you can disconnect 2 sparkplugs and shove a dead squirrel or something in the intake to reduce the flow (less air, less gas). These modifications should get you up to the 60 to 70 mpg range.
Most cars come with lots 'o parts. Waaaay more than you really need. Just look at this picture. If you don't recognize it, you probably don't need it. They just put all that stuff in there so they can charge you more money. Just start takin stuff off. If it stops runnin, put it back and take something else off. You can probably get the weight down to that of a garden tractor. Come to think of it, yank out that gas guzzler under the hood and swap in a Briggs & Stratton!! Waaaaaay too many parts.............. ![]()
